Area-by-Area Lab Composite
precautionary meth screening test where there is some suspicion of meth related behaviour occurring.
Service Description
IMPORTANT INFORMATION This service does not meet the definition of a Detailed Assessment under NZS8510:2017. A Detailed Assessment is required by the Residential Tenancies (Managing Methamphetamine Contamination) Regulations 2026 to determine contamination. OUR PROCESS Individual (discrete) samples are collected from key areas of the property, including bedrooms, kitchen, lounge, hallway, bathroom, laundry, garage, outbuildings and other living spaces, and sent to the laboratory. The laboratory composites samples into groups of up to 10 for analysis. Sampling follows the NIOSH 9111 technique and is aligned with NZS8510 and the Residential Tenancies (Managing Methamphetamine Contamination) Regulations 2026. If there is suspicion of meth-related activity, additional information is recorded on site, including a floor plan showing sample locations. Further sampling may be carried out where rangehoods, extractor fans, heat pumps, ventilation systems or other high-risk materials are present. If required, individual samples can be processed to assess the distribution of contamination and draw conclusions about contamination indicators. Advantages: One to two samples taken in each key area based on material types present. Composite analysis reduces initial testing costs compared with full discrete/individual sample analysis. Individual samples are retained by the laboratory and can be re-analysed if contamination is detected. Individual results can be used in Tenancy Tribunal matters. Individual results can be used to support a subsequent Detailed Assessment, avoiding repetition and reducing costs. Disadvantages: Collecting more information can increase time and cost. If contamination is detected, additional laboratory processing or further sampling may be required. Additional sampling may be necessary to meet the minimum requirements for a Detailed Assessment.
